Are you a black professional who would like to connect with other professionals in an organic environment? Do you sometimes feel impostor syndrome at big professional events? Would you like to make long lasting connections with employers and black professionals?
A few years ago, I attended a Facebook and an Amazon Black History Month event, where I had the chance to listen to everyone’s amazing stories and watch their brilliant performances. I felt like I was surrounded by black excellence, so much black excellence that I started feeling inadequate. I’ve never been a high achiever, nor was I exceptionally smart so whenever I find myself at “ networking events“, I sometimes get imposter syndrome and I feel as if the environment isn’t comfortable enough for me to be my true self.
You might be wondering why I have previously felt that way and based on how confident I come across it may be difficult for you to comprehend. Some may argue that this may be an internal issue and it’s “all in my head”, and as much as I worked on perfecting my networking skills in these spaces, I still craved for something that felt more “human” .
These are some of the reasons I enjoy being in relaxed networking environments:
- I am someone that loves to chat away and laugh continuously.
- I love to understand other people’s journeys genuinely, not just because I want us to work together or sell anything to you.
- I want you to share your achievements in a space where it doesn’t feel superficial.
- I love having free-flowing organic conversations in safe spaces
I want an event that will make you feel comfortable, express yourself, and mingle. I found I had quite not the experience from other professional events I attended, so I decided to start hosting events as a part of Black Create Connect. Our first networking event took place 30th June 2022, which was an incredible space that encouraged many virtual relationships to flourish.
Black Create Connect was established to create a safe space for you and many other black professionals who would like to connect organically with other professionals. We hope to connect employers to black talents and give everyone the space to foster new connections and have a fun time.
My favorite feature of the night was the “Spotlight section” where black professionals had the chance to take the spotlight and share with us a little bit about what they do and why they want to meet new people. It was an encouraging moment, and everyone was cheered to speak up.
Black Create Connect aims to curate more spaces like this and grow numbers as time progresses. Our next event is on the 28th of October to celebrate Black History and experiences, and the venue is sponsored by FOUR communications.
We’ve thought long about how to make you comfortable during our next networking event and we have decided to include key features that our community loved at the previous event. This includes:
- A live Dj playing the best of Amapiano, Afrobeats, Dancehall and more !
- Unlimited access to drinks and Caribbean nibbles
- Networking Prompt cards
If you love taking pictures in places that are aesthetically pleasing, then you wouldn’t want to miss the exquisite view of our new event. Our next event holds on a rooftop in London where chairs and tables are grouped together, so you can sit down, get comfortable and have conversations. Also, you will have the opportunity to meet other Black Create Connect community members to discuss projects, challenges, journeys and more.
