After a few career plays across Uber, London-based Amelia Rich, an Enterprise Lead for Emerging Accounts at Uber Eats, has found her home shaping strategy for emerging accounts, growing restaurant partners, and creating magical customer experiences. Here’s her advice for anyone looking to join Uber Eats.
Tell us a little bit about yourself
“I grew up in Sydney and studied Finance and Accounting at the Australian National University. After finishing my degree and taking 6 months off to travel through Europe, my career started in banking. I worked on the debt financing of infrastructure and energy projects for almost 3 years before deciding I was ready for a career switch up! I joined Uber over 3 years ago in the Sydney team before moving to the UK at the beginning of 2021. I love food and traveling (hence my move far from home!), so I feel grateful that working at Uber has facilitated both of these passions!”
What does your day-to-day look like?
“I split my time between three key areas. Growing and developing the team, from hiring great talent to training and setting them up for success with great foundations. Building a strategy and direction for my team and engaging with partners. It’s a great part of the role and allows me to stay close to challenges and opportunities in the industry.”
What are some of the key lessons you’ve learned at Uber?
“The value of having amazing people around you to continuously raise the bar and embrace change!”
How has your role evolved at Uber?
“I joined our incubation team in Sydney in mid-2019. We were tasked with launching new business lines in Australia (convenience, alcohol). However, after a couple of months there we wrapped up product launches so I moved into an Account Management role working with some of the highest growth accounts on the platform. At the beginning of 2021, I moved to the UK into a strategic partner management role helping large QSRs grow and develop. Most recently, I’ve taken on a team lead role to shape the strategy for Emerging Accounts in the Enterprise portfolio and build and develop a best in class team!”
How are you building and growing Uber Eats in the UK today?
“My job is to enable my team to grow restaurant partners and in turn create an awesome customer experience! To do this, the team focuses on building strategies to increase order volumes and ensure operational excellence. The team does this by working closely with their restaurant partners to understand and align with their growth plans, while also spending time digging into the data to formulate actionable insights.”
Any tips for people looking to join Uber Eats?
